Multimedia is media and content using a combination of different content. This term can be used as a noun (the media content in multiple forms) or as an adjective, a description of the media as having multiple content forms. This term is used in contrast to the media that only use traditional forms of printed or hand-produced material. Multimedia includes a combination of text, audio, photos, animation, video, and interactivity content forms.
Multimedia is usually recorded and played, displayed or accessed by information content processing devices such as computers and electronic devices, but also be part of a live performance to be. Multimedia (as an adjective) also describes electronic media devices used to store and experience multimedia content. Multimedia is similar to traditional mixed media in fine art, but with a wider scope. The term "rich media" is synonymous for interactive multimedia. Hypermedia can be considered as a special multimedia application.
Multimedia can be roughly divided into the categories of linear and nonlinear. Linear active content to take place without the navigation buttons to the viewer, such as a cinema presentation. Non-linear content offers user interactivity to control progress as used with computer games or used on your own computer-based training pacing. Hypermedia is an example of non-linear content. Multimedia presentations can be live or recorded. Presentations are recorded so that interactivity via a navigation system. A live multimedia presentation may allow interactivity via interaction with the presenter or the players.
Multimedia presentations can be viewed directly on the stage projected, transmitted, or played locally with a media player. A possible broadcast live or recorded multimedia presentation. Broadcasts and recordings can be either analog or digital electronic media technology. Digital online multimedia may be downloaded or streamed. Streaming multimedia may be live or on demand.
Multimedia games and simulations can be used in the physical environment with special effects, with some users in the online network, or local to the offline computer, game console or simulator.
